‘Nothing I do seems to rid me of my jiggly arm blubber’

The last 12 months have been great for raising the voice of the over-60s community at Starts at 60, something we feel strongly about doing. During the next few weeks we are celebrating the blogs that resonated with readers the most throughout the year. This blog is one of our Top 30 blogs for 2018.

Bat wings, bingo arms or whatever else you might call them. Bat wings is what I call my excess upper arm blubber. Nothing seems to move it.

It just creeps up on you as you age. Folds of loose skin that hangs from the undersides of my upper arms. Not everyone has it, of course, but there are many who do.

I reckon I have enough of this excess flesh to donate to the breast reconstruction unit at any major hospital. I figure I could rebuild about eight (size C cup) breasts. Why is there not a donation of excess tissue organisation? I would be the first to line up. It would be a great way to rid myself of this horrible stuff. I would gladly give it away.

Nothing I do seems to move it. I have tried all manner of exercise, such as swimming and boxing or even a bit of ‘downward dog’. I’e changed my diet, from drinking more water to eating more leafy greens and potions, yet still it clings onto me. Jiggling whenever I move my arms.

This pesky upper arm flab can really take the fun out of clothes shopping too. It prevents me from buying nice shirts, usually the sleeves are way too tight. Sleeveless shirts and dresses are the go, but then others have to look at my unsightly arms. It is a no-win situation. Kaftans would probably hide all, but who wants to wear a kaftan every day. I would need to sing like Kamahl if I were decked out in a kaftan. That is definitely not going to happen.

Maybe some of you fellow bat wingers may have a solution. That should read ex-bat wingers, because if you still have them then you are obviously like me and have not come across a suitable remedy.

Do you suffer from excess skin on your upper arms? What have you tried to get rid of it?
