In a heartfelt and deeply personal moment, Charles Spencer, the younger brother of the late Princess Diana, has paid tribute to his sister on the 26th anniversary of her tragic passing.

The death of Princess Diana on August 31, 1997, triggered a worldwide wave of grief. Her compassion, activism, and grace had made her an adored figure, leading to an unprecedented display of sorrow.

Mourners left flowers and tributes at various locations, reflecting the profound impact she had on people’s lives and the incredible memory of the “People’s Princess.”

To mark 26 years since that tragic day, her brother took to Instagram, sharing a throwback picture of them as kids.

The snapshot captures a young Diana in a pink dress, her arm draped over her little brother’s shoulder as they pose for the camera. Meanwhile, Charles sports a matching all-blue outfit with a striped polo shirt and royal blue shorts.

The post provided an opportunity for Diana’s fans around the globe to unite in remembering the exceptional life and lasting legacy of the “People’s Princess”.

“Your words at her memorial service were so powerful and beautiful. Thank you for your courage to stand up and speak them,” one follower wrote.

“Gone but never, ever forgotten.”

“Wonderful photo of you and HRH Princess Diana. The Princess of hearts and kindness. Thinking of you on this day. Xx.”

“Such a wonderful picture. She will be missed always,” another commented.

“That is a very sweet picture of you two. Sending prayers during this difficult time. We love you and miss you Diana.”

In the time since Diana’s passing, her younger brother has found numerous ways to honour her memory.

Following her tragic death, he undertook the construction of a temple on the grounds of Althorp, their ancestral estate that had been Diana’s cherished childhood home and where she now rests eternally.

On All Souls’ Day in 2022, Charles took a moment to remember those he had lost, creating a heartfelt tribute to both his elder sister and their father, John Spencer with another touching throwback photo posted to Instagram.

“Today is All Souls Day — when it’s customary to remember the souls of those you love, who’ve departed: it is known in some parts of the world as the Day of the Dead,” Charles’ caption began

“A deeply poignant photograph for me from the summer of 1989, when there was a party at Althorp to mark my father’s 65th birthday earlier that year.”

In the portrait, John is seated between his two youngest children. Both he and his son are dressed in classic black and white tuxedos, while Diana wears a sparkling one-shoulder gown, delivering a big smile while looking away from the camera.

Charles’ moving tribute on what surely must be a difficult day comes after his nephew, Prince Harry, opened up about the difficulty he faced with the trauma of losing his mother.

“I can only speak from my personal experience – My tour of Afghanistan in 2011 flying Apaches,” he said in an episode of his latest Netflix documentary Heart of Invictus

“Somewhere after that there was an unravelling and the trigger to me was returning from Afghanistan.

“But the stuff that was coming up was from 1997 – from the age of 12.

“Losing my mum at such a young age, the trauma that I had, I was never really aware of.

“I didn’t have that support structure that network or that expert advice to identify what was actually going on with me.”
