Women’s mag slammed for story about Meghan Markle’s ONE grey hair

Women all over the world are being told to embrace their natural looks etc etc. Then there’s the realm of women’s magazines, where the writers apparently believe that no little flaw should go unscrutinised.

But it may be that women, and men, are finally getting tired of all the female self-flagellation, because a popular ladies’ magazine has come under major fire for writing an entire story about Meghan Markle stepping out with just one single strand of silver hair on show.

Prince Harry’s future wife, 36, was pictured in an article published by Marie Claire magazine with her hair tied back in a casual ponytail. She’s seen beaming to fans on an outing with the royals, but it wasn’t her lovely complexion or nice clothes that were singled out.

Instead, the magazine drew a box round a tiny, grey  hair on her head – and created a story around it. The news article, titled ‘Meghan Markle Has A Single Gray Hair’ ran with a subtitle reading, ‘And it’s magnificent’.

“Who knows if Meghan Markle is choosing to just own it, not waste the time and money on such frequent upkeep, or, just doesn’t notice because it’s ONE HAIR. But, either way, it’s nice to see she’s a regular person with a few stray grays, just like everyone else!” the story in the US magazine read.

But while the story took a positive tone, it wasn’t received that way by the reading public. While some Twitter users branded the publication “ridiculous”, another shared a snap of their own head, and wrote: “I’m younger than Meghan Markle and have WAY more gray hairs. Where’s my article, marieclaire?”.

Another joked: “I can’t believe Meghan Markle’s gray hair is single. IT’S A TOTAL CATCH!”. And one added: “I need 300 words on Meghan Markle’s grey hair on my desk by 8 am, Tina. Don’t f*** this up!” While one wrote: “Marie Claire over here writing about a single grey hair on the glorious head of Meghan Markle. Adjust your perspective, this is ridiculous.”

Even the executive producer of comedy TV series Will & Grace, Gary Janettijumped on the bandwagon and took to his hugely popular Instagram page to share a reaction. He’s known for using funny photos of Prince William and Catherine’s son Prince George in his posts to comment on current affairs.

This time, he shared a snap of George looking somewhat devilish, before adding the photo of Meghan’s hair, and writing: “I gave you something for your wedding …”

It comes after Harry and Meghan sent their wedding invites out just a few weeks ago.

In a statement released on Thursday in the UK, Kensington Palace disclosed that 600 invitations to the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which will take place at Windsor Castle on May 19, had been posted. The invitations were issued, as per tradition, by the Prince of Wales and featured the three-feathered badge printed in gold ink.

The statement released by the palace also gave some added insight into how the wedding would run ,adding that all the wedding guests were invited to a lunchtime reception at St George’s Hall hosted by the Queen. Later in the evening, a special selection of 200 guests will be invited to a private reception at Frogmore House that will be hosted by Prince Charles.

Hopefully the word that invitations had now gone out should assuage the worries of friend-to-the-royals Elton John, who told the US press recently that he hadn’t yet been honoured with an invitation to the heavily anticipated nuptials, despite cancelling shows in Las Vegas to free up the date.

Do you think the magazine should apologise for the story? Do you think one grey hair deserved a whole story?
