After being separated since February due to strict border restrictions, TV and radio host Steve Price and his mother Margo have finally reunited. The mother and son appeared on Network 10’s The Project on Wednesday night to speak to Steve’s fellow panellists about how it felt to catch up with each other again in person after 289 long days apart.

But it wasn’t just seeing the softer side of Steve that surprised audiences. Fans were also shocked by how youthful his mother looked. The 65-year-old presenter appeared on screen with his arm around his mum, who he said was “north of 85 years old”, but Twitter users refused to believe the graceful-looking Margo was actually that age.

One commenter wrote, “Merry Christmas Steve and Margo! And are you sure it’s not Steve’s sister? She looks amazing!” While another echoed the sentiment by saying, “85?! Dose me up with whatever Mrs Price is taking. She looks ah-may-zing!”

Another commenter joked about her age, saying, “She must of had him at 3 years old.”

Steve was clearly elated to be reunited with his mum, and admitted it was “fantastic” to see her again when asked by The Project host Waleed Aly how it felt to finally arrive in Adelaide after such a long stint away from his mother.

“It has been 289 days. I counted it out today. As I’ve said on the program a couple of times, I got very emotional about it. I can’t say how old mum is, but she is north of 85. It got to a point during this where – like a lot of Australians – [I] sat there and thought, ‘Well, I can’t go across the border. I can’t go and see my own mother and I might not seen her again.’ I [drove around and] got lost in the Adelaide Hills and we’re here and happy.”

Meanwhile, Margo also shared her joy at seeing her son, saying the reunion made her emotional after being isolated from most of her family for so long.

“Well, I saw him pull up this morning and I had a little bit of a tear in the eye,” she said. “It was just lovely to see him because I haven’t seen … my family for a year and Steve since February. So, it was just beautiful.”

Only last month, the Network 10 panellist spoke on air about the struggle of not being able to see his mum, who he admitted at the time was “going downhill”.

“I’ve had to have a very difficult conversation again today,” he told his fellow panellists. “Yesterday I gave my mother a date. I said, I will be there on the 10th of December in the car to pick you up after not seeing you since February. She … can’t fly in a plane, she can’t drive herself. [And now] we may get shut out again. She said … ‘I’m [probably] just going to have Christmas Day on my own. I won’t make the Christmas cake ‘cos there’ll be no-one here to eat it’.”

But luckily, with both Victoria and South Australia containing their outbreaks in time for Christmas, Steve was able to see his mother a few days earlier than planned and the pair are now able to share the festive season together.
