Following the three-year feud that transpired from Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepping down as senior royals early in 2020, it seems there may be a light of reconciliation at the end of the tunnel for the estranged Prince and his royal father, King Charles III.

Since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex controversially eschewed their senior royal duties and aired the dirty family laundry in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, there has been considerable murky water under the bridge.

But now just over a year after the death of his beloved mother, Elizabeth II, sources close to the Royal family have revealed that King Charles is seeking to reunite with his errant son.

The motivation behind this turn of events is that King Charles, as a symbol of unity in Britain, has a “strategic need to resolve the issue” of Harry’s separation from the family, a former staffer has said.

This after much speculation that Prince Harry had snubbed his father’s attempt at reconciliation on the anniversary of the Queen’s passing last month.

Speaking to the Daily Beast, sources and friends close to King Charles and Queen Camilla have said the newly minted Monarch is hoping to “hit the reset button” with Harry but, in true stiff upper lip style, there aren’t any apologies expected to be made from either side.

“It has been reported that Charles wants an apology from Harry, but that’s far from the case. [Charles] wouldn’t expect that. He knows the Windsors are a stubborn lot and Harry is no exception. The quid-pro-quo is, can Harry accept that he won’t be getting an apology either?” the source said.

“Don’t forget that Charles authorized Jonathan Dimbleby to write a book which attacked his parents, but ultimately they all basically forgot about it, chalked it down to experience and moved on. Charles wants to hit the reset button—but not at any price.”

However, the clincher will be whether or not Harry can bury the hatchet without the apology he has sought from the Royal family.

In pre-publicity interview to promote his book, Spare, Harry revealed that he is looking for “accountability” from the royals.

Speaking to The Telegraph he said, “The way I see it is, I’m willing to forgive you [the royal family] for everything you’ve done, and I wish you’d actually sat down with me, properly, and instead of saying I’m delusional and paranoid, actually sit down and have a proper conversation about this, because what I’d really like is some accountability. And an apology to my wife.”

While reconciliation between King Charles and Prince Harry hangs in the balance, there has been no word regarding the ongoing frosty relations between Harry and his brother, Prince William.

Whether reconciliation is on the cards for the Royals or not, it seems even in the loftiest circles, you can indeed choose your friends, but as for your family, these are given us by fate and we must navigate the dynamics that come with it as best we can.
