Melanie Griffith’s powerful warning as she reveals update on skin cancer

Melanie Griffith has revealed she’s undergone the final stage of her treatment for skin cancer in a moving and powerful message to her fans on social media.

The 61-year-old actress shared a close-up photo of her face with the top of her nose completely bandaged up, revealing she had just had dermabrasion to fix her nose following her previous surgery.

The star first had the skin cancer removed last year, before undergoing several procedures to fix her nose and the mark left there.

In the photo, she opted for large glasses and minimal make-up, ensuring all focus was on her plastered nose. She wrote: “Bandaged again after having dermabrasion, the final step to fix the now removed basil (sic) cell skin cancer.

“If any of you have it, get it fixed. If you lay in the sun, are exposed to lots of sun, be CAREFUL.

“Use sun screen. Get checked out by your dermatologist. If you don’t have one, get one, or go to your nearest clinic and ask to be tested for it. More info to come!”

Meanwhile another wrote: “Sending fast healing prayers your way gorgeous,” and one wrote: “Great info. That is why my husband of 46 yrs plus wears a big brim hat & long sleeves out doors when he cuts grass in our yard.

“He had a cancer spot on his face and had it removed. He always uses sunscreen when outdoors. So now he cuts the grass when the sun goes down & whit a big brim hat to cover his face from the sun exposure!!! Dangerous out there.”

She previously admitted her concerns that the cancer removal surgery could have an impact on her career as an actress, while speaking in an interview with InStyle.

“It’s a scary thing when you’re an actress and you depend on your face for work,” she told the publication. “But I realise I have to put a Band-Aid on it, and it’s fine… I just look like a dork.”

Her message follows similar ones from actor Hugh Jackman, 49, who has heavily campaigned for more awareness of the dangers of the sun, having battled skin cancer scares himself in the past.

The actor was first diagnosed in 2013, and it was previously reported he had had cancers removed from his nose and shoulder.

In 2013, he spoke to Variety saying he had been treated for skin cancer after wife Deborra-Lee Furness told him to get a red spot checked out.

“I’m a good example of making sure you get checkups and listening to your wife,” he said in the article.
