Groovy, baby! This incredible Fraser Island holiday is 1970s themed

Dust off the sepia shades, pull out the flares and polish those go-go boots for an adventure-filled 1970s-themed holiday to beautiful Fraser Island. This year, for the first time ever, Travel at 60 has organised a special three-night holiday for over-60s that’s focused on that fabulous era of disco and fun and is sure to have you reminiscing of great times past.

But unlike those nights spent dancing on tables in sweaty nightclubs when you were young, the experience will take place on the World-Heritage-listed Fraser Island in tropical Queensland. It combines some incredible sightseeing with loads of music, trivia and even a fancy-dress party, which are all ’70s themed.

In the words of Wendy Harch, Travel at 60’s chief commercial officer, “it’s a really cool event” that will leave you with lots of fond memories of 2021 – something many of us missed out on during the challenging year of 2020 that, let’s face it, you’d probably rather forget.

“Fraser Island itself is pretty spectacular,” Wendy adds. “It’s got so much to offer – I mean it’s World Heritage listed! But what makes this holiday so unique and special is that it combines the beauty of the destination with some really fun activities. There’s heaps of inclusions, such as daily breakfasts, a welcome dinner, a disco party and a guided four-wheel-drive tour, where you can see all of the sites the island is famous for. Upon arriving at Fraser Island, you’ll have some time to explore the stunning Kingfisher Bay Resort and get settled into your room, which you’ll call home for three nights. Nestled into the island’s landscape, the Queenslander-style rooms are peaceful, private and spacious – the perfect escape from the everyday. You might even be serenaded by the island’s native birds as you sip your morning coffee on the balcony.

Then, once you’ve unpacked and slipped into your resort-wear, you’ll get to meet your fellow groupies at a barbecue dinner before a night strolling down memory lane at the Game Show Live – ’70s trivia event. If your memory serves you well, you may be the one to receive a prize!

The following day is all about exploring, with a 4WD tour to Fraser Island’s iconic sites, including a dip in some idyllic waterholes. Later that night after freshening up it will be time for the main event – the Travel at 60 disco! Enjoy dinner and a night of dancing in your best ’70s garb to the greatest tunes from the decade.

After all that excitement, the last full day on Fraser Island will be a relaxing one. You’ll have the opportunity to explore any parts of the island you may have missed, or simply soak up the sunshine at one of the resort’s four swimming pools – because we all need some time to unwind after everything that’s happened in the past 12 months!

The three-night getaway, set for departure in mid May this year, already has more than 40 people booked in, but there’s still plenty of room left if you’re only now thinking about your plans for 2021. However, Wendy said it’s sure to fill up fast, given many people are choosing to book holidays at short notice in these somewhat unpredictable times.
