Sir Elton John has lived a life many dream of but after recent health battles, the music legend admits he thinks more about mortality than fame and wealth.

As the father to two young boys, Sir Elton fears he will not see his children reach important milestones as they enter adulthood.

The 77-year-old superstar made the heartfelt confession while promoting his new biopic, Elton John: Never Too Late which showed a more introspective side to the music legend.

Opening up to The Mirror, the Crocodile Rock singer discussed his concerns about the future for his sons, Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, whom he shares with husband David Furnish.

“I want to be around forever. I want to see them have children, get married but I don’t think I am going to be around for that. Who knows? You never know,” he said.

“So that is why I want to make the best of my time while I am around. Our time together is so wonderful and so precious.”

Touchingly, the two boys have also shared concerns for their father’s health and Sir Elton explained it was a topic that comes up often in the John-Furnish household.

“They worry as they know how old I am. Not so much David but me,” he said.

“They love their Daddy so they want me to be around forever.”

Despite a series of health issues over the years, Sir Elton is ‘still standing’ and has maintained his sense of humour despite concerns for his family’s future.

While some may let their health woes keep them down, Sir Elton takes a lighter approach to life’s difficulties, recently joking that “there’s not much of me left”.

The Tiny Dancer hitmaker made the comments in front of attendees at the New York Film Festival premiere of his documentary on Tuesday, October 1.

“To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left. I don’t have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate,” he told the crowd, as per People.

“I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee. In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip.

“But I’m still here. And I can’t thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me.

“I want to thank David and Zachary and Elijah for making me the happiest man in the world.”
