After battling an infection that cost him sight in one eye, Sir Elton John has reassured his fans that he has “never been better.”
Back in September, the music icon disclosed that a “severe eye infection” had left him with “only limited vision.”
Appearing recently on Good Morning America with his husband, David Furnish, Sir Elton spoke candidly about his health struggles and how he continues to move forward with optimism.
“I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France and it’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see,” he explained, as per the Daily Mail.
“And my left eye is not the greatest, so. There’s hope and encouragement that it will be okay and we’re taking an intiative to try and get it better. At the moment that’s really what we’re concentrating on.
“David and I always have our blood tests every six months in Los Angeles. Our health has never been better.
“It’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen. I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.
“I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording I don’t know, because I can’t see a lyric for a start.
“We’re taking an initiative to try and get it better, but at the moment that’s really what we’re concentrating on.”
Sir Elton’s health admission comes after the I’m Still Standing hitmaker had to recently leave the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada: A New Musical, for which he composed the score. Due to his poor eyesight, he was unable to fully enjoy the production.
Although the 77-year-old appeared on stage at the start of the show, he left midway through, guided out of the Dominion Theatre by his husband, David Furnish.
It was then that the Crocodile Rock singer revealed he had lost much of his vision and couldn’t properly experience the musical.
“As some of you may know, I have had issues and now I have lost my sight,” he told those in attendance.
“I haven’t been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed it.
“To my husband who’s been my rock because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews.
“It’s hard for me to see it but I love to hear it and it sounded good tonight. Thank you for coming.”
