King Charles III has spoken out on the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The beloved Monarch’s 70-year reign came to an end on Thursday, September 8 at 6.30 pm London time at Balmoral.

As is British tradition, Charles became the King of the United Kingdom following the Queen’s passing, becoming the 62nd British monarch.

In a statement released on the Royal Family’s social media accounts, His Majesty said the death of his beloved mother “is a moment of greatest sadness” for him and his family.

“The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family,” the statement read.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother.

“I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.

“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”

Buckingham Palace announced her death in a statement after senior royals gathered at Balmoral following concern from the Queen’s doctors regarding her health earlier in the day.

“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” the statement read.

“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Hours before her death was announced, the Palace informed the public that doctors were “concerned for Her Majesty’s health”.

“Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision,” Buckingham Palace said.

“The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”

Queen Elizabeth was the longest reigning Monarch in British History, celebrating her Platinum Jubilee earlier this year.

With the world in mourning, many grievers took to social media to express their sorrows for the beloved Monarch.

More news to come on the funeral processions and coronation of His Majesty the King.
