As Queen Mary of Denmark embraces her new role as Monarch, the Tasmanian-born royal has captured the hearts of royal watchers once again with the announcement of an “important” new project.
With a passion for education and social impact, Queen Mary is about to launch a podcast that tackles the pressing issue of loneliness among young people.
Taking to social media, Mary spoke of her love of podcasts and how “proud” she is to be releasing her own onto the airwaves.
“I often listen when I have to move from one place to another. Some days I’m in the mood for entertainment and other days I use it to gain knowledge and new input,” she began.
“That’s why I’m also proud that we’ve now thrown ourselves into making podcasts in Mary Fonden. Our first podcast is called ‘Lonely Youth’, and through three short episodes, it gives an in-depth insight into the nuances of loneliness by mixing professionalism and personal narratives from young people.
“We know from the study “Loneliness in Denmark” that 73% of 16-19 year olds experience loneliness, whether they are alone or with others. At the same time, 17% of 16-24 year olds feel very lonely. These are heavy numbers that we need to do something about.
“Podcast is not something we have this much experience with yet in Mary Fonden, but I hope you will listen and feel welcome.”

Royal fans were thrilled by the announcement, praising Queen Mary for shining a light on such an important issue.
“How wonderful that you guys are focusing on this particular topic. So many lonely young people out there,” one wrote.
“Really important message and focus, thank you guys,”
“Important initiative for our young people! Thank you for your dedication and for bringing focus to this area,” commented another.
“Great message from her majesty.”
Mary has long been recognised for her commitment to social causes. As the world prepared to welcome her as the new Queen of Denmark earlier this year, author and palace expert Thomas Larsen praised a then Crown Princess Mary’s strong work ethic, sincerity, and unwavering commitment to social justice causes.
He highlighted the impactful initiatives of the Mary Foundation, focusing on combating bullying and domestic violence, which have earned her widespread respect.
”She has been trying to make a difference and use her position within the royal family to improve the lives of others,” he said.
Søren Ravn Jensen, director of Denmark’s Christmas Stamp Foundation, also attested to Crown Princess Mary’s genuine empathy and kindness during her regular visits as a patron.
In addition to her latest project, Queen Mary is settling into her new royal role with grace and confidence following her ascension to the throne alongside her husband King Frederik on January 14, 2024.
After Queen Margrethe II, Europe’s longest-serving Monarch announced her abdication after an illustrious 52-year reign during her traditional New Year’s Eve speech, a ceremony rich with tradition and historical significance took place only weeks later that saw Mary and Frederik rise to the throne.
