Stylish presenter Lisa Wilkinson rarely puts a foot wrong in the fashion stakes, and her latest outfit proves just that!

The host of The Sunday Project is known for her impeccable styling, and last week was no exception. While hosting an intimate lunch for L’Oréal Paris’ in Sydney last week, Wilkinson, 61, wowed in an elegant red silk gown with billowing sleeves and a cinched-in waist.

The mid-length gown featured a high, ruffled neck and three delicate slits showing off just the right amount of skin. The gown was the picture of elegance and style, perfectly accessorised with nude heels and statement earrings.

Lisa’s look was the perfect example of elegant yet modern dressing for over-60s, with the flattering cut accentuating her waist and the sleeves providing coverage over her arms – an area many women in their 60s say they feel self-conscious about.

It’s no secret that dressing for a special occasion can get more difficult with age, as many options on the racks are more suited to those of a younger vintage. Many Starts at 60 readers have told us in the past that they struggle to find clothes that are flattering and comfortable in many of the major stores – especially if they’re looking for something in the middle to low price range.

And while celebrities make looking stylish as easy as pie, it’s not always easy to pull off a fabulous look on a daily basis without the help of team of professionals. There are however a few tried and tested tips you can use to inject a little style and fun into your wardrobe without having to compromise on budget or comfort.

  • Match old with new. Don’t shy away from vintage clothing. Simply mix it with newer purchases for a more youthful look.
  • Have a core wardrobe of neutral basics that you can liven up with scarves, jackets and accessories.
  • Keep a collection of your favourite looks that you can refer to for inspiration when shopping.
  • Invest in a small collection of scarves. Include block colours, neutrals and prints and mix up materials and lengths.
  • Switch from dangly earrings to studs or small hoops.
  • Avoid wearing black up top – it can be ageing!
