Bert and Patti Newton have become grandparents for the sixth time, as their daughter Lauren gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Thursday. Lauren took to Instagram to share the happy news and revealed her son’s sweet moniker.
The 40-year-old gave birth five weeks early and thanked the staff at Frances Perry House in a heartfelt post. Lauren and husband Matt Welsh, a former Olympic swimmer, are already parents to five children; Sam, 11, Eva, nine, Lola, six, Monty, two, and 15-month-old daughter Perla.
“Alby James Newton Welsh. Born at 8:20 on 20/8/2020,” she wrote on social media on Friday. “We are so grateful to the amazing @dr_stephencole and the wonderful team at @frances_perry_house.
“It has been a long journey and we are so thrilled to have gorgeous Alby here safely. He is 7 weeks early but doing really well.”

People were quick to congratulate the new parents – and grandparents Bert and Patti – on the new arrival. One user wrote: “Oh wow I can already see your dad in him.” Another commented: “Lovely news, congratulations! Welcome to the world, Alby. God bless you and your family.”
One well-wisher wrote: “Wow congratulations another addition to your already beautiful family.” While another said: “Congratulations, so pleased everyone is going well. Totally worth it!”
Patti, 75, revealed her excitement at the prospect of becoming a grandparent for the sixth time back in April, as she told her Instagram followers: “Another beautiful baby to love. So lucky this baby is having No 6. In these sad and difficult times, wonderful to have such joy to look forward to.
“The best parents, and the most fabulous children, we miss you so much our love Nana and Poppy.”
Lauren revealed she had been hospitalised due to pregnancy complications in July, and shared her difficult experience on social media as she thanked her parents for stepping up and helping her husband Matt take care of their five young children.
“Missing my gorgeous babies,” Lauren wrote on Instagram at the time. “It’s been 5 weeks so far of not seeing them while I’m in hospital due to pregnancy complications.
“I miss them so much but Matt and Mum and Dad have done an incredible job. Also thanks to my beautiful friends for all the support.”
