‘We’ve lost it’: Carlotta says Australia is too politically correct

She’s been entertaining Australian audiences for decades both on screen and on stage and Carlotta has now spoken out about why she believes Australia isn’t the place it once was.

The 75-year-old appeared on Friday’s episode of The Daily Edition where she spoke about her extravagant life. Carlotta, who was always known for being politically incorrect on Beauty and the Beast, claimed Australia has lost its sense of humour.

“We’ve lost a lot in Australia because, I know we’re a multicultural country, but our sense of humour, we had the best sense of humour in the world,” she explained to the show’s hosts. “We are not Aussies unless we can laugh at ourselves. And I miss that.”

She also said as a nation, people are constantly being told what they can and can’t say.

“You can’t say this and you can’t say that,” she vented “Where are we going with it? It’s totally wrong.

“It’s like the #MeToo movement. If I sued everyone that grabbed me on the boobs years ago, I’d be filthy rich. I know they can go too far, but sometimes I think that’s [the #MeToo movement] gone too far.”

Carlotta also explained that Australian men were once known for their flirty ways.

“They pinched us on the bum,” she said. “We’re going to get people writing in about this but I don’t care. I say it as it is. I just think we are Australians and we should be proud of our ockerism. Let’s not lose that.”

During the chat, she also revealed that although she’s 75-years-young, she doesn’t want to slow down.

“I don’t want to slow down mate,” she joked. “I’ve got friends that are retired and they’re boring. So they’re bored. I want to go out still doing what I’m doing.”

The former Studio 10 star admitted that although she’s now in good health, she recently had a cancer scare.

“I’m in the all-clear and feeling better than ever, but it was a big wake-up call to get things checked out the moment you feel something isn’t right,” she told New Idea last month.

According to the publication, the Number 96 star noticed there was a problem in March when she thought she had a simple urinary tract infection. When that didn’t get better, she saw a specialist who confirmed there was a cancerous tumour growing in her bladder.

After undergoing surgery, Carlotta was given the all clear by her oncologist.

Carlotta was born Richard Byron in 1943 and remains one of the country’s most well-known and loved transgender people. In addition to her recent The Daily Edition interview, she also confessed that she once had an affair with a Logie winner.

Appearing on The Morning Show earlier this week, the star said she wouldn’t reveal the mystery man.

“I’m taking a few names to the grave!” she joked. “You’ll have to read the book that comes out after I die. There’s too many people that like two minutes of fame and that’s all you’ll get by naming thick people like that. I’m not interested in that.”
