We all want a pristine toilet but there is more to cleaning this bathroom fixture than squirting a quick splash of disinfectant.

Even for the most fastidious among us, your toilet may still look old and grubby thanks to a build-up of limescale deposits.

Although harmless, untreated limescale buildup can make your toilet look old and dirty and make the rest of your bathroom feel grotty.

However, a crafty cleaner has shown social media users how to descale their toilets and all she uses is a common household item found in many homes across the country.

Sammy, who often shares her tips on TikTok, uploaded a video to the site and showed how she uses a dishwashing tablet to clean her toilet.

She told her viewers to drop a tablet into the toilet basin, then pour in hot water from a recently boiled kettle.

Then she said to give the toilet a good scrub with a scrubbing brush and “watch the limescale disappear.”

Viewers were impressed with her tip and were thankful for the advice, but not everyone was impressed.

Others pointed out that boiling water could crack a toilet basin.

“Don’t put boiling water in the toilet this. Could easily damage it,” one wrote.

That’s where a dishwasher tablet comes in. Dip the dishwasher tablet in warm water and then rub it up and down the shower screen. You may need to repeat this step a few times as the dishwasher tablet dries out after a while. Then wash the glass shower doors down with clean water.

All you have to do is fill the bin up with warm water and drop a dishwasher tablet inside. Once it has dissolved, let it sit for about an hour before rinsing clean with hot water.

Before you get started, the first thing you should do is absorb any of the remaining liquids (cornstarch does a good job). Once all the liquid has been absorbed and the cornstarch has been properly disposed of, wet the area and use a dishwasher table to scrub the stain away. Then rinse clean with warm water.
