It’s every royal fan’s dream to visit Buckingham Palace in London, and now people can enjoy a tour of Her Majesty the Queen’s primary residence, all from the comfort of their own home.

Each year Buckingham Palace opens its doors to guests from around the world, offering tours around the stunning residence, but this year due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, they’ve been cancelled. However, determined not to let its fans down, the royal family has embraced the digital world with virtual trips to the palace instead.

This week a series of snaps of the palace’s interior were shared to the British royal clan’s official Instagram account, treating fans to a peak inside some of the most glamorous rooms, including the White Drawing Room, the Ballroom and the Throne Room.

The first room revealed was the White Drawing Room, from where Queen Elizabeth usually enters the State Rooms. It’s described as perhaps the “grandest room of all”, with gold detailing, a chandelier and a grand piano, which was ordered by Queen Victoria in 1856. The White Drawing Room is also where the Queen sits each year as she delivers her Christmas Day speech.

Next on the palace tour was the Queen’s Throne Room, featuring high ceilings, multiple chandeliers and two red throne chairs which are known as the Chairs of Estate. They were used for the Queen’s coronation ceremony in 1953. One is embroidered with ‘EIIR’ for Queen Elizabeth II and the other with a ‘P’ for her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

“Like the other State Rooms, it was designed by John Nash, who was influenced by his work in theatre set designs,” the caption read.

Royal fans were then taken to the Ballroom, and it certainty impressed. The room is the largest of the State Rooms and was completed in 1855, during the reign of Queen Victoria. Today, the Ballroom is used for official purposes, including State Banquets and Investitures.

It features gorgeous red carpet, white walls with gold detailing, while multiple chandeliers are hung from the roof.  At the end of the room also sits two thrones that were made for the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1902.

Also wowing fans was the Picture Gallery which was originally designed to display the artwork of George IV. Today the paintings in the gallery are mainly Italian, Dutch and Flemish works from the 17th century. Over the years it has also been used for official entertaining, with receptions hosted by the Queen and other members of the royal family.
