All My Children star John Callahan dies aged 66 from ‘massive stroke’

All My Children star John Callahan has passed away after suffering a “massive stroke”, with his rep confirming his death was not coronavirus related.

The 66-year-old, who is known best for his role as Edmund Grey on the daytime soap opera, sadly died on Saturday at his home in Palm Beach, California, TMZ reports. According to the publication, paramedics were called to the scene on Friday and was transferred to hospital where he was placed on life support, before passing away the following day.

Callahan’s rep told TMZ his death was not related to the current Covid-19 outbreak, however, there were limited people allowed to see him in his final moments due to tight hospital visitation restrictions.

Tributes have since begun to pour in, with the actor’s ex-wife and former co-star Eva la Rue explaining their deep sadness at the loss of their loved one.

“May flights of angels wing you to your rest my dear friend,” she wrote on a post on Instagram. “Your bigger than life, gregarious personality will leave a hole in our hearts forever. We are devastated – My great friend, co parent partner, and loving father to Kaya.

“That big belly laugh, bear hugs, bad puns, ability to harmonize to any song, great kitchen table singing-fests, and two steppin bad ass! ‘Johnny Numbers’, my All My Children soap stud, the great time keeper, Beatles fanatic ( I wish to God we could go back to ‘Yesterday’).

“Kaya and I are beyond broken hearted, so stunned, sorry that my thoughts are a mess. You gave the best most beautifully written tributes, and I am at a complete loss for words right now for you. I hope heaven has baseball and that your team always wins! The Yankees has just lost their biggest Fan.”

Others such as All My Children star Cady McClain also shared their messages for Callahan’s family following his passing. The actress described him as “funny, silly and fun” and said he will be forever missed.

“So sorry to hear if [sic] the passing of the man I called ‘Callahan’,” she wrote on Twitter. “He was a remarkable person. Funny, silly, fun. My heart goes out to his daughter and partner in parenting, Eva la Rue.”
