Malcolm Turnbull has some advice for Trump about the media

Malcolm Turnbull says Donald Trump should stop focusing on the media.

As you might have heard on the news, Donald Trump held a fiery press conference attacking the media yesterday.

And while it’s got media outlets around the world fired up, Australia’s PM Malcolm Turnbull is taking a softer approach.

Turnbull was in New Zealand yesterday meeting the NZ Prime Minister Bill English, when of course, Trump became a talking point.

He was asked by a reporter about Trump’s attacks on the media.

The ABC reports that Turnbull said Trump should stop focusing on what the media is doing.

“A very great politician, Winston Churchill, once said that politicians complaining about the newspapers is like a sailor complaining about the sea,” Turnbull said.

“There is not much point. That is the media we live with and we have to get our message across and we thank you all in the media for your kind attention.”

His comments were in stark contrast to Trump, who used a press conference in the White House to attack what he labelled “fake news” about Russia and his presidency.

But the attacks on the media for “fake news” aren’t just limited to Trump.

The “fake news” catchphrase has become regular amongst some Australian politicians including One Nation senators Pauline Hanson and Malcolm Roberts, who have regularly accused the media of misinformation.

What do you think? Is Malcolm Turnbull right about the media?
