DIY toilet fizzy bombs 23

Cleaning the toilet isn’t just a chore, it is just a crappy job (pardon the pun). No one wants to spend a lot of money of cleaning products, and toilet cleaners tend to be the most expensive.

So if you’re tired of trying to clean your loo and want to get it sparkling without nasty chemicals, why not try this simple DIY recipe for fizzy bombs?

Makes ~40 bombs

  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup bi-carb soda
  • 1/2 cup citric acid
  • 1/4 cup washing soda
  • 100ml water
  • 10 drops of your favourite essential oil

Also needed:

  • spray bottle
  • gloves
  • shaped mould

  1. Wearing gloves, mix the cornstarch, bi-carb, citric acid and washing soda in a large bowl.
  2. Mix the water and essential oil in the spray bottle.
  3. Spray the cornstarch mixture with the water mixture. Add the water slowly while you’re mixing.
  4. When you squeeze the mixture, it should hold its shape.
  5. Press the mixture into the mould and let dry for at least one hour.
  6. Place in your toilet tank!

  1. You have to put these in the toilet tank. You should never put anything in the toilet tank. If there’s a civil emergency and everything fails…. the water in your toilet tank might be your only clean water.

  2. Are they safe for septics. Can actually see the tank blasting off into space. Would be hilarious….

  3. I drop a couple of my Mum’s denture tablets in the bowl when necessary. Cheap and effective. They probably could go in the tank too.

  4. Dollop of cleaning vinegar plus some down the drains

  5. I’ve heard a couple of Alka Seltzer tablets but never tried it. I do it the old school way with a toilet brush
