When you think of the Royal family you probably picture them eating an abundance of fancy dishes but the Duchess of Cornwall has revealed their fridge is more likely stocked with cheese and tomato sauce.
Appearing on popular cooking show Masterchef on Wednesday night, Camilla and Prince Charles were treated to a range of tasty and somewhat peculiar treats during their world first stint on the show.
For months Masterchef fans have been eagerly awaiting the airing of the episode, which was filmed earlier this year during the royal couple’s visit to Australia and it did not disappoint.
While the green ant canapés may have shocked the prince just a little as judge George Calombaris stated “they are our version of fish and chips”, Camilla gave fans an insight into her husband and grandchildren’s favourite foods.
Speaking with judge Gary Mehigan, the Duchess of Cornwall said Charles enjoys local cheeses and home grown produce.
“He’s a huge cheese fan, anything to do with cheese he’ll love,” she exclaimed.
She added: “Anything with eggs, and a bit of local vegetable, he’d love that. You’d definitely see a smile”.
While the contestants were busy battling with terrible weather conditions in an outside kitchen as they prepared 450 canapes for a reception in Darwin, Camilla spoke of her essential kitchen ingredients and a surprising family favourite food.
“I have to have, if I haven’t got fresh tomatoes, I’ll always have tomato puree,” she told Gary.
“And I’m afraid to say, even ketchup. My grandchildren are rather addicted to ketchup.”
According to the Duchess of Cornwall, garlic is off limits at any royal reception; perhaps because of the smell?
“I hate to say this…but garlic is a no-no,” she said.
Once the hard work was over the exhausted contestants shared a laugh with the prince as they discussed their dishes and the not so ideal cooking conditions in the blustery heat.

“Is this the first time you’ve all been to Darwin? It’s quite interesting the heat isn’t it?” Prince Charles asked the contestants.
“It’s horrible,” they replied with a laugh.
