Todd McKenney reveals his sister married his ex-boyfriend

After a relationship breakup, people usually go their separate ways and often never cross paths again. But that isn’t the case for dancing sensation Todd McKenney, who has revealed his ex-boyfriend is married to his sister.  

The 54-year-old told the Word For Word podcast on Tuesday that he’s deliberately stayed quiet about his family secret for years, but is sick of not talking about it.

“She married my ex-boyfriend … so we have a weird relationship,” McKenney said about his sister, Lisa.

“She married my ex-boyfriend and is still married to my ex-boyfriend but just has never mentioned it to me. It’s weird isn’t it? I don’t think I’ve ever spoken about it publicly.”

Speaking with incredible candour, McKenney revealed that he dated Simon Gallaher for five years before the pair eventually broke up and lost contact. However, years later he discovered through friends that Gallaher had struck up a relationship with his sister, Lisa. 

“I remember I was doing Cats and there was a newspaper banner outside the newsagency, and it said, ‘Simon’s love child,'” McKenney explained. “I didn’t know anything about that but I go into my dressing room and the other guys in the show said, ‘what about Simon and Lisa?’ And I went, ‘which Simon?’ They said, ‘Simon Gallager’. I said, ‘Lisa who?’ And they said, ‘your sister!'”.

Completely surprised by the relationship, McKenney said he didn’t even realise they knew each other, let alone that they were dating. Now, Gallaher and Lisa McKenney, who married in 1990, have three children together and the Dancing With The Stars judge says he stayed mum on the odd family dynamic for the sake of their kids.

“For the sake of them I haven’t said it, but they’re grown up now and I get on with them and they know the stories now,” he explained.

While KcKenney admitted he and his sister were like “chalk and cheese” growing up and don’t share a close relationship, but that there’s no bad blood between them. 

“If you’re happy go for it,” he said.

While his sister enjoys married life, the performer last year shared how he has given up on looking for love, instead focusing on his showbiz life and beloved greyhounds.

Although happy to pursue a relationship should it arise, McKenney told Starts at 60 he is done searching for that special person.

“I don’t know whether I work as much as I do because I am single or I am single because I work so much. All I do is work, I love what I do,” he said.
