All the reasons I love being in a foreign country…

Jun 05, 2017

Have I ever mentioned to you that I love travel!

P.S. We are in Scandinavia for a month.

The thrill of being surrounded by people speaking a language I can’t understand a word of! The challenge of finding your way around when all the signs are not in English! The idea of standing in a building built by the Viking Harald Bluetooth; over a thousand years ago. Coming to understand the way they do things differently.

Scandinavia

Not only do they drive on the right side but they walk along the paths on the right side. Being able to find a particular type of shop when they have little glass in the exterior walls and none of the shop names are familiar… but we have found the coffee shops!

The one familiar shop is the 7 Elevens, they are on every train platform. They give you change for the train ticket machines and if you have any difficulty it is part of their job description to help you. Most stations are not staffed by train employees.

The kindness of strangers… so far we have walked the short distances between train station and accommodation but as it was very cold winds and we had our back packs, we decided to use a bus. As soon as we stepped in I could see that everyone uses a card. I tried to give money to the bus driver but he shook his head; so we turned to get off but he said something and pointed into the bus, and we had a free ride into the tog/train station.

Today we are going shopping! I need to buy a woollen scarf that is five times longer and thicker so I can be fashionable ( you won’t be able to see my face though!). My husband is going to the hairdressers to have a hair cut… no hair anyway around the sides just short hair in a circle on the top of the head! Just joking but fashion wise they are the two areas of difference.

I reckon in these types of cold countries they should give shirts away… I have not seen one shirt since we arrived! or a pair of naked legs!
