‘Forget the big issues of today, let’s go back to simpler times’

Another year is drawing to a close. I can’t help wonder where we are headed. The world appears to be turning to marshmallow. The politically correct are gaining momentum.

If vegan and climate change activists win their imaginary wars, I feel cows and sheep will be roaming the streets. Abattoirs will be replaced by pharmaceutical companies with machines that run around the clock making gluten free, lactose free, ethically sourced ingredients for an iron deficient nation.

Climate change activists will continue their protests disrupting traffic and trying to shut down Adani with their urgent message that the situation needs to be addressed immediately. All this while drinking out of their plastic water bottles and posting their antics to social media on their smartphones.

In my opinion, the gender debate is out of control too. Already those with the loudest voice have succeeded in removing gender from a newborn baby’s birth certificate. What comes next?

Driverless everything will be the norm. What concerns me about nobody at the wheel is this … How can a machine read the mind of a child who decides, without warning, to cross the road on his bicycle or chase that wayward ball as it bounces across the street? Technology might be good, but we still need to have some control.

Then there’s the matter of electric cars. I’m yet to be convinced that not having a strong and reliable car that can get me from point A to point B is a better alternative to not being able to find a powerpoint to plug my vehicle forcing me to become stranded on a busy motorway.

Our justice system is laughable! Police officers work hard, often putting their own safety at risk, to catch criminals and our court system somehow finds a loophole that allows these appalling members of society to walk away with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. My personal opinion is that where one of these people takes a life, they should be sent to prison for life. No minimum sentence, no parole, but for life!

I’m fed up with the ‘poor me’ stories. Everyone struggles to get by. It is the poor choices these individuals make along the way that sees them before a judge.

I am glad I am in my third quarter of life. I lived the bulk of my life through a simpler time, but at least we all knew where we stood. Today the lines are just too blurry!
