Prince William and wife Catherine always said that they would do their best to give their children as ‘normal’ an upbringing as possible, and they’ve stuck to their word.
Although the smallest royals take part in plenty of pomp and ceremony such as the recent royal wedding and Saturday’s Trooping the Colour ceremony, they also get an opportunity to be just like any other kid and they clearly love it. Prince George and Princess Charlotte were totally at home with a group of family and friends on Sunday at the Maserati Royal Charity Polo Match, where they larked about on the grass while their mum Catherine watched on.

As usual, Charlotte was the funny little show-off of the two, doing headstands and dancing about in a pair of bright pink sunglasses, while George played with an old-school Slinky toy and even braved a giant slide at the fair.
The Duchess of Cambridge underlined the casual nature of the outing by wearing a AU$71 dress from high-street store Zara and a pair of low-heeled wedges from English shoe store Russell & Bromley that retail for about $AU220. The low heels meant that she could chase Prince George down a gentle hill, grinning as she did it.
The rest of her time was spent like any other young mum on a day out with the kids – untangling the Slinky, re-tying shoe laces and comforting Prince George when all the excitement became a bit much and he got a little teary.
The three were watching Prince William play in the polo match as they sat with Autumn Phillips, the Canadian wife of Princess Anne’s son Peter, and the couple’s two daughters Savannah and Isla.
The little girls, who are George and Charlotte’s second cousins, are clearly very comfortable with Catherine’s children, having appeared on the balcony with them at the Trooping the Colour the previous day, where Savannah got a laugh from viewers after she was caught putting her hand over George’s mouth, having clearly had enough of his rendition of ‘God Save the Queen’.

The Maserati polo match was just one of many Prince William, alongside brother Prince Harry, will play during the English summer as they do every year to raise money for charity. Tickets to the event were on sale to the public and included access to a traditional fun fair plus all the usual rural exhibitions and demonstrations.
Although the event was public, photographers were clearly aware that it was a relaxed family day out for Catherine and the children and not an official engagement, so kept all photography to a respectful distance. That said, the duchess and her kids were clearly happy to be mixing with the crowds, with Catherine even climbing to the top of the slide alongside other parents while George had a quick trip down it.
Baby Prince Louis wasn’t in attendance, just as he wasn’t at the Trooping the Colour ceremony for Queen Elizabeth’s 92nd birthday, no doubt being a little too young to enjoy either event.
