Police warn of terrifying ‘death threat’ scam

To add to the ever growing list of scams to be on the lookout for, Victoria Police are warning of a scam once again making the rounds.

This time, it comes in the form of potentially terrifying death threats.

In a Facebook post, the police warn that victims are being approached via email, text message, or telephone calls and pretending to be a hired hit man with a contract on the victim’s life.

“The fraudster states this contract can only be removed if payment by the victim is made. They can then demand payment via bitcoin, bank transfer/financial institute remittance or through iTunes gift card.
Anyone who has received emails or text messages of this nature should ignore them- don’t respond and don’t send any money to the scammers,” they advised.
