It’s that time of the year again, when Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) releases its annual lamb ad in the lead up to Australia Day, and this year’s tongue-in-cheek ad has been labelled the best ever.

This year’s ad, called ‘Make Lamb, Not Walls’, is themed around the nation’s border closures and starts off by showing viewers sprawling border walls separating each state and territory from one another.

“Today marks 10 years since our once united nation was divided by the Great State Walls as tensions continue to escalate,” a news presenter can be heard saying in the background.

The clip then flicks to an older man walking along the New South Wales-Queensland border, when he comes to an abrupt stop after the smell of a perfectly cooked piece of lamb wafts through a crack in the wall.

As the man begins to pick at the crack with his car keys, a young girl asks her mother, “What’s on the other side, Mummy?” The mother responds, “They’re called Queenslanders.”

A hand then appears through the crack holding a piece of lamb, offering the man a bite. As a result, other bystanders begin to smash through the concrete. The clip then flicks to a new scene where all the states and territories are reunited, enjoying a barbecue together.

The ad also pokes fun at Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s infamous Hawaii holiday during the 2019/2020 Australian bushfires, ending with a man resembling Morrison stepping off an Aloha Airlines plane, cocktail in hand, asking: “What have I missed?”

“As a brand that celebrates unity and the power of coming together, this year in the ad, we wanted to remind Australians that we are always stronger together,” MLA Domestic Market Manager Graeme Yardy said, 7News reports.

And it seems viewers at home were equally impressed by the ad, with one person commenting on Facebook: “Always do a brilliant job! I look forward to their ads every January!”

Another added: “Absolutely brilliant! Each time you watch it, you notice something new. So funny!”

While a third wrote: “One of the best ads — love waiting to see what MLA come up with each year.”
