King Charles has paid tribute to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth, with a touching throwback photo in honour of Mother’s Day in the UK.
The King shared a heartwarming black-and-white photo from the Royal Windsor Horse Show, where a young Charles is seen sitting beside Queen Elizabeth as they leaned in toward each other, reading a book. A young Princess Anne is seen sitting on the other side of the late Queen.
“Wishing all mothers, and those who are missing theirs today, a peaceful Mothering Sunday,” the caption read.

Charles has always made an effort to honour his late mother on special occasions since her passing. In 2024, the King marked Mother’s Day with an endearing image of him, when he was younger, sweetly kissing his mother’s hand after she presented him with a prize at a polo event.

Charles’ most recent Mother’s Day tribute comes after the King was recently admitted to hospital after experiencing temporary side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment.
Buckingham Palace shared the health update, revealing that the King cancelled a planned trip to Birmingham on Friday, March 28 to recover.
“Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, the King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
After his brief stay in the hospital, King Charles returned to Clarence House to rest.
Much to the delight of royal fans, Charles was later spotted leaving his residence on Friday in the back of a black Audi, smiling and waving to onlookers.
