If you ever feel like you’ve been ignored or considered less valuable as an older woman, then it turns out you’re not alone.
Iconic Hollywood actress Jessica Lange has opened up about the issues women face with ageism.
She told the harsh truth about ageing as a woman during an interview with People magazine.
“Women are viewed as a commodity more so than male actors,” the 67-year-old actress said.
“At a certain age women are no longer considered a viable or a valuable part of the community — even if that’s when they may feel like they’re at the top of their game. And that’s not just in Hollywood.”
Lange’s comments stem from her portrayal of Joan Crawford in the new series Feud: Bette and Joan, which explores the attitudes towards the age of actresses in Hollywood.
Lange, and her co-star Susan Sarandon – who plays Bette Davis in the series – made headlines earlier this year when they spoke openly about ageism against women.

During an onstage interview, Lange said Feud explore the question of “what happens when beauty is no longer viable, because it’s connected to youth?”
“It looks at what Hollywood does to women as they age,” she said.
“Which is just a microcosm of what happens to women generally as they age.”
