Hollywood legend Jane Fonda is known for many things, including her many acting accolades and political activism, but would you believe she can add bear fighter to that list?

That’s the word from her son, Troy O’Donovan Garity, who revealed a surprising anecdote about his mother’s fighting spirit when they both appeared on Netflix’s Skip Intro podcast.

The 51 year old Garity was asked to share something about his mother that the public wouldn’t know when he brought up the time Fonda saved her grandson from a bear.

“She pushed a bear out of her bedroom,” Garity said.

At the time, the Klute star was living “out in the wild” in New Mexico and looking after her grandson Malcolm, now 25, when she found the uninvited guest looming over him in his crib.

“She heard something so she left the bedroom in the middle of the night to go see what the sound was,” Garity said.

“And when she came back in, the screen door was dismantled and there was a bear in the bedroom, sniffing over the crib.”

Luckily, the Grace and Frankie star had just learnt what to do when you’re close to a bear, showing podcast host Krista Smith how she roared at the creature to scare it away.

“And that was it (scream). And get very big; I opened my bathrobe,” Fonda recalled.

Thankfully Fonda’s act scared away the bear but her technique worked too well, revealing the animal “urinated on the rug” before it left.

“And then (it) walked back to the door and sat down and I did, I pushed it out, yeah,” Fonda added.

No doubt, having a world famous fitness regime helped her find the strength to take on the grizzly visitor in the first place.

Nowadays, she still follows a similar program and still finds ways to challenge herself at age 87.

Earlier in the year Fonda spoke to People magazine and shared how how her fitness journey has changed over the years and explained why exercise was still important to her.

“I essentially do everything I used to do, just slower,” she said through People.

“I used to be a runner, but now I love walking. I love being outdoors in the woods, especially up and down hills.”

However, the Nine to Five star admitted she needed to mix up her routine to keep motivated as she still works out every day, telling the magazine she now loved walking outside to get her cardio fix.
