Hollywood dumps Australia leaving one star with ‘impotent fury’

The animated film Larrikins was going to be Australia’s Frozen with a major studio behind it and a star-studded cast.  That idea has been destroyed after a management shake-up with the US-based Dreamworks Entertainment has seen support for the projected pulled.

No one is devastated more about the project falling apart than the man that has dedicated the last four years of his life to making it happen, Australian comedian, actor, and co-creator of the Matilda stage musical Tim Minchin.  The script for the film was written by Australian Harry Cripps and was to feature the Australian outback and promote the wonderful history of the Aboriginal people.

A statement on the star’s website stated, “I’ve recently been working in three different continents, missing my kids a lot, sleeping too little and not playing piano enough”.  He added, “And then a couple of days ago, the animated film to which I’ve dedicated the last 4 years of my life was shut down by the new studio execs.

“The only way I know how to deal with my impotent fury and sadness is to subject members of the public to the spectacle of me getting drunk and playing ballads.”

The film will be continued to be shopped around to other studios and only time will tell if the little Aussie film that could even will.

Would you like to see a major Australian animated film for the world to see?
