A distressed daughter of a struggling farmer has highlighted the devastating effects of the drought on Aussies by sharing a heartbreaking photo of her father.

Rhonda King took to social media on Tuesday to share the picture of her 83-year-old dad who is doing all he can to get by.

The snap shows the heartbroken farmer kneeling in a dried-up dam, praying for rain that will break the never-ending drought.

“The effects of the drought,” she wrote on Facebook. “This morning I found my 83 year old father in the middle of a dry dam praying for rain.”

The photo had been shared over 600 times at time of publication with many heartfelt comments from fellow Aussies offering support.

“Good luck! Hope he now has his prayers answered and you now get the act of god to make it rain, fill the dam and green up the parched paddocks! Plus follow up rain to keep things green and replenish your faith,” one person wrote.

While another added: “I am so sorry for your and your dad I can only wish your family love and best wishes”.

And a third said: “Heart breaking picture so hard to take after a lifetime of hard work”.

This isn’t the first time families have taken to social media to share the devastating effects of the worst drought since 1956.

Back in August a snap of a little girl clutching a dead lamb was spread across the internet, revealing the tragic impact the minimal rain has had on farmers.

The heart wrenching image was shared on Facebook alongside a poem, in which the young girl weeps that “Lambs Mum died”. The small girl can be seen cradling the limp lamb on her family farm near Tenterfield, at the border of New South Wales and Queensland.

The moving poem began saying: “Another farmer sighed today, she couldn’t do this anymore, she was tired of the fight, her heart broken and body sore.”

In another verse, the poem says: “The waterholes are empty, the dams broken down and dry, a little girl carries a lamb and she has a little cry.”

Commentators were quick to reply, showing their support for the suffering farmer, with one writing: “Just heartbreaking. Such a tough gig.” Another added: “This is tragic.”
