Dame Maggie Smith wonders how ‘they cope with it’

Who doesn’t love Dame Maggie Smith?  The beloved 82-year-old actor has starred in some of the greatest films of all time as well as the great television show Downton Abby.

You would think that at this stage in her career she would have extreme confidence, but she told the press that if she had to start all over today that she wouldn’t make it and that her younger peers are “brave.”

Speaking with The Guardian, Dame Maggie said, “I think they are so brave, the young actresses of today. They seem to have to strip off every second. I can’t imagine how they cope with it today, I really don’t. They are required to do the most extraordinary things.”

She added, “If I was asked to start now, I just don’t think I could, seriously. It’s difficult to imagine myself at that age because girls are starting even younger than I was [when I started]. I think it’s very, very, very hard now.”

It might be hard to believe that Dame Maggie wouldn’t be successful no matter what time period or age that she started in.  Talent is something without boundaries.
