During an intimate and thought-provoking interview, celebrated actor Sam Neill has spoken of the importance of the women in his life while providing a captivating glimpse into his love life

While opening up about his romantic journey over the years with the Sydney Morning Herald, Neill revealed he now embraces the single scene.

“I am a solitary single man now, and I wonder if that’s a personal failing or just bad luck. I am past my use-by date and would not marry again,” he told the publication.

“These days I’m lucky if I go on the odd date. That suits me well, but it’s also a bit lonely.

“There were times last year that I could have done with a bit of companionship to see me through my blood-cancer treatment. Writing  Did I Ever Tell You This? made me reflect on how much gratitude I have for people like my mother, and the women who’ve been good to me.”

Neill is of course talking about his latest memoir in which he shared the shocking news that he had battled stage 3 blood cancer. Concerns quickly grew and the Jurassic Park star was forced to take to social media to alleviate any concerns and let fans know he was doing fine.

Neill posted a video to Instagram in which he shared further details regarding the condition of his health and that he is currently in remission.

“Hi I’m Sam Neill, actor of sorts, vintner, and an author as it happens. And my news seems to be all over the news at the moment, and it’s sort of ‘Cancer ! Cancer! Cancer !’ Which is slightly tiresome because as you see, I am alive and well and I have been in remission for eight months, which feels really good,” he said at the time.

“And I’m alive and kicking and I’m going to work. I’m very happy to be going back to work. We start filming in seven days time. I’m doing a thing called ‘Apples Never Fall’ with Annette Bening , and a really wonderful cast.”

Neill then encouraged fans to focus less on his latest health news and instead get excited about his new book.

“So here I am, and I just wish the headline wasn’t ‘that thing’ so much, because the main thing is that I have written this book, it’s called ‘Did I Ever Tell You This?’. And it does mention cancer because that’s the sort of context in which I wrote it,” he said.

“So I hope you enjoy it, and let’s not worry too much about ‘all that’ because I’m fine . Okay !”

Neill’s illustrious and remarkable career spans over five decades, encompassing notable roles in both compelling dramas and blockbuster hits. Renowned as an “international leading man” he stands widely acknowledged as one of the most versatile actors of his generation.

Since his breakthrough performance in the 1977 film Sleeping Dogs, Neill has continuously embraced prominent roles in acclaimed movies such as My Brilliant Career (1979), Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981), A Cry in the Dark (1988), Dead Calm (1989), The Hunt For Red October (1990), The Piano (1993), and In the Mouth of Madness (1994). Garnering worldwide acclaim, Neill achieved global recognition for his exceptional portrayal of Dr. Alan Grant in the blockbuster Jurassic Park (1993), a character he reprised in Jurassic Park III (2001) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022).
