Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes was rushed to the emergency room on Monday evening after suffering an undisclosed illness. The 64-year-old singer shared a photo of himself donning a white gown on Tuesday while flashing a big grin from his hospital bed, having been rushed to the E.R. by his wife the previous night.

The caption read: “I spent last night in ER at St Vincent Hospital and I want to thank the amazing staff who took care of me. This song (see next post) is for them and my best friend @jane13barnes who dashed me there and stayed by my side. We’ll all get by with a little help from our friends”.

He later confirmed in a quick video that the hospital stay wasn’t coronavirus-related although admitted the visit was unexpected as he found himself a “bit crook”. The video featured his long-time partner Jane Mahoney, daughter Ella-May Barnes and his grandson as he thanked the doctors, nurses and staff at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney.

The Cold Chisel frontman who’s famous for his raspy voice dedicated a cover of The Beatles classic ‘With a Little Help From My Friends’ alongside his wife and daughter while telling everyone to “look after each other in these uncertain times”.

Jimmy’s son, Today Extra host and veteran presenter David Campbell shared some words of support for his dad on his social media writing: “Spoke to my dad. He is safe at home. Much better. Which is a relief”.

More of Jimmy’s famous friends flocked to social media to share their well wishes with TV personality Angela Bishop writing: “Get well soon Jimmy and sending lots of hugs to Jane too”. Meanwhile ABC News Breakfast host wrote: “Yikes! Get well soon, Jimmy!!”

Fans also showed concern for the ‘Khe Sanh’ singer with one writing: “Always smiling Jimmy even when in hospital. Wishing you a speedy recovery and hope Jane is also well. Its not easy for her either at the moment. Take care and look forward to enjoying your Covid songs xx”.

Meanwhile, another shared a sweet memory of the singer writing: “Get well soon. You’re a legend to Aussie rock. You have a special meaning for our family, when you happily agreed to meet our disabled daughter, who still loves your music, many moons ago at a rock gig in Kalgoorlie. It meant the world to all of us that you made the time for her”.

Prior to his health scare, Jimmy had been supporting fans through isolation by putting on a nightly performance featuring Jane and special guest appearances including his musically talented children Mahalia, David, Jackie and EJ as well as his brother-in-law Diesel and Masterchef judge Jock Zonfrillo.
