Australian television icon John Burgess remains in intensive care at the Royal Perth Hospital after being rushed to hospital last week with a serious bacterial infection.

The TV icon took to Twitter this week to provide fans with an update on his recovery, apologising to followers for his recent social media absence and usual “Thank God It’s Friday” (TGIF) joke.

“Sorry I couldn’t TGIF everybody; I am in Royal Perth Hospital with a serious bacterial infection leading to blood poisoning but the good folk here got me on the road to recovery let’s talk next week (TGIS),” he wrote.

Burgess was admitted to the Royal Perth Hospital last Wednesday, February 2, after suffering from a serious bacterial infection that resulted in blood poisoning.

Fans took to social media to wish him well, offering ‘Burgo’ messages of love, care and a swift recovery. Multiple users referred to the host as “King” as they urged him to “get better soon”.

Best known for his long-running stint as presenter of the popular game show Wheel of Fortune between 1984 to 1996, Burgess has become an Aussie icon like no other. Burgess has since established a strong social media presence where he regularly makes comedic posts and shares life updates.

Burgess continues to recover at the Royal Perth Hospital with wife Gianna by his side.
