With the cost of living crisis continuing to bite, Aussie shoppers are always on the lookout for the best products and value for money when they head to the supermarket.

With that in mind, shoppers will no doubt be delighted to learn that Australia’s best-rated supermarket has now been crowned where they can not only find fresh and quality products but also value for money.

Following a rigorous evaluation in Canstar Blue’s Supermarket Satisfaction Ratings for 2024, ALDI has emerged as the winner, securing the Most Satisfied Customers Award for an impressive 7th consecutive year.

In the annual consumer ranking, ALDI secured an incredible seven five-star ratings in the all-important categories of value for money, overall satisfaction, freshness of produce, checkout experience, deals/ specials available, layout and presentation, and quality of supermarket-owned branded products.

Group Director of ALDI Australia, Simon Padovani-Ginies expressed the supermarket chain’s pride in maintaining its position as a leader in customer satisfaction.

“Being credited as the only five-star rated supermarket for overall satisfaction shows our day-in-day-out commitment to delivering market-leading prices on high quality goods is resonating with our shoppers,” Padovani-Ginies said.

“Customers deserve great value for money and quality products when shopping for groceries, so this is a proud win for ALDI and our many Australian business partners who always aim to exceed the expectations of our shoppers with the excellent products on our shelves.”

Christine Seib, Editor-in-Chief at Canstar Blue, praised ALDI for their achievement and for consistently maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction over the past seven years.

“In 2024 ALDI maintained its five-star satisfaction scores for value for money, the freshness of its produce, the quality of its deals and specials and its own-branded products, its store layout and presentation and its customers’ overall satisfaction with their shopping experience,” Seib said.

“ALDI managed to do this at a time when customers’ budgets are strained by rising costs of living and competition between supermarket brands to attract and retain those increasingly cautious shoppers is particularly high.

“Value for money remains the biggest driver of customer satisfaction but freshness of product was slightly more important to shoppers in 2024 than it was in 2023, so delivering strongly on both of those key satisfaction factors helped ALDI’s performance in this year’s ratings.”

ALDI’s latest accolade comes after the supermarket chain was found to have the cheapest grocery prices in the country.

As part of CHOICE’s first quarterly, government-funded report on supermarket prices across Australia, mystery shoppers were sent to 81 regional and metropolitan supermarkets across the country, including ALDI, Woolworths, and Coles, to record prices for 14 common grocery items such as apples, carrots, bread, tea bags, beef mince, and butter among other essentials.

After comparing prices, CHOICE found that the cost of a full shopping basket at ALDI was 25 per cent cheaper than that of Coles and Woolworths.

CHOICE CEO, Ashley de Silva said “Aldi was the clear leader on value for money in our first supermarket basket survey for 2024, with our basket of 14 products costing just $51.51 – coming in at about 25% cheaper than Coles or Woolworths.”

“Grocery prices at Coles and Woolworths are very closely matched, with only 75 cents separating the prices of our basket of 14 items without specials. Coles was the most expensive at $69.33, while the basket at Woolworths came in at $68.58,” de Silva added.
