It’s safe to say no one loves bending down to scrub the inside of a microwave. But one savvy woman has revealed a simple trick for cleaning your microwave — and it only requires two ingredients!

The woman who goes by the name Mama Mila on the new teen app TikTok, which allows users to share videos, says all you need is one cup of water and one teaspoon of dishwasher detergent. To get started, simply mix the two ingredients together in a jug.

Then pop the jug inside the microwave for four minutes. Why? As the liquid boils it condenses on the sides of the microwave, loosening gunk and dissolving food splatters. Then wipe down the inside with a clean cloth starting with the ceiling and sides — you’ll be surprised with how easy the grimes comes off! If your microwave has a turntable, lift it out and wipe clean.

“No more scrubbing,” Mama Mila wrote on the video, which has had more than 22,000 views so far. “Gently wipe the microwave and watch the grime slide off. The steam environment softens all the stubborn, baked-on food and makes it very easy to clean.”

Starts at 60 recently shared another hack for cleaning your microwave — and all you need is a lemon and some water. First measure 1/2 cup of water into a measuring cup or bowl. Slice a lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the water along with the lemon rinds. Place the bowl into the microwave and zap for three minutes or until the liquid comes to a boil.

Before opening the microwave, leave the bowl to sit for five minutes. Why? The trapped steam will help loosen gunk, making it easier to wipe away. After five minutes, open the door and carefully remove the bowl before wiping the inside of the microwave. There is a chance you might come across some stubborn spots that won’t easily wipe away. To fix this, dip the side of a towel into the lemon-water and scrub until the spots go away.
