Eight ways Siri can make your life easier

Siri

Siri is the “little lady” that lives in your iPhone, calls you by name, gives you directions and knows all of your personal details… And we mean all of them.

But, most of us aren’t actually using Siri in a particularly effective way. So, to help us make the most of our (very expensive) personal phone devices, here are ten tips to help maximise your benefit from Siri.

1. Ask her to read your messages

When you’re driving, don’t look at your phone! That is a $300+ fine and three points gone. Instead, ask her to read you your latest message. Simply say, “Siri, read my last message” and she will get to work. Even better, you can ask her to reply! Simply say, “Siri, reply to (insert name here) and she will ask you what to say.

2. Ask her to set your alarms

Just ask her, “Siri, set my alarm” and she will ask you “for what time” and you can give her instructions! It’s like laziness for the even lazier.

3. She can make all of the big life decisions for you

If you’re struggling with a decision just ask her to flip a coin… She’ll say either heads or tails and sometimes the coin will “fall in a crack” proving that Siri might be intellectual but doesn’t have the fine motor skills we thought she might.

4. Google search

By asking Siri, “Google search (insert search term)” she’ll do the hard work for you!

5. Siri can file and retrieve (like a good secretary)

If you write down recipes in your notes section and don’t have the time to flick right through them to find the one you want just ask, “Siri, find my note about chicken soup” and she will bring it up for you.

6. Don’t talk down to Siri

Siri is very intelligent, so much so that if you ask her to “Schedule an appointment with my Sister at the cafe on Smith Street, Sydney at 10:30” she will do just that and will even send your sister a calendar invite too!

7. She can change your settings

If you want to turn WiFi or your personal hot spot off, disable iMessage or swap your mail from push to fetch, just ask and she will do.

8. Teach Siri to understand the way you speak

If you ask a question and she hears it as something different to your actual query, just press “tap to edit” in the top right hand corner of your phone, correct her mistake and she’ll be recognise her fault and learn from it!
