To some of us, our iPhone or iPad is our best technology friend and we’re lucky to have them… After all, they are our book library, our photo album, our camera, our telephone, our computer, or they let us talk to our friends, check in with our children and spend way too many hours playing addictive apps (we know you went through the Candy Crush phase… Don’t try and deny it!). But, what if you discovered there are still things you didn’t know about your iPhone or iPad?
We’ve found ten of the best secrets that you may or may not already know about your iPhone and iPad… These will make you even more appreciative to have them!
1. Undo your unwanted text… Yes, your iPhone has a secret undo button… Simply shake your phone, and an “Undo Typing” box will come up. If you change your mind after you’ve hit Undo, shake your phone again for a handy “Redo Typing” box. It’s that simple!
2. Take multiple photos and great action shots. Hold down the shutter button in your camera and you’ll automatically activate burst mode. Your phone will capture a ton of photos in rapid succession and save them to your camera: a great way to guarantee you’ll get a profile pic to your liking.
3. Change your passcode to letters!
4. Charge your phone twice as fast. By turning airplane mode on, your phone will double it’s charging speed.
5. Have your emails read to you by Siri. Just tell Siri, “Read my email,” and she’ll oblige. You’ll hear the sender’s name, the date/time of the message, and the subject line.
6. See your calendar appointments in detail without clicking into them. Turn your phone horizontally when in your calendar app to see a more detailed view of your appointments.
7. Check what time your messages have sent or come in. Just click view timestamps of your messages in iOS 7: touch and drag message bubbles to the left.
8. Know what flights are flying around your area. Ask Siri, “What flights are above me?” or just say, “Planes overhead,” and she’ll pull up a chart featuring each plane’s flight number, its altitude, and its angle. (It took my Siri about 30 seconds to pull up this data, so be patient!
9. Use your iPhone as a spirit level. Swipe left in the Compass app to access a level. Pretty cool.
10. Restrict app purchases. This is fantastic if you give your iPhone or your iPad to the grandkids for a play. Go to Settings > General > Restrictions, Enable Restrictions, and scroll down to disable In-App Purchases.
So, you can be happy knowing that you now know a little bit more about your favourite piece of technology!
