Rita Wilson is divine in figure-hugging sequins as Tom Hanks accepts lifetime award

They’re one of Hollywoods most loved-up couples, having been happily married for almost 32 years, so it’s no surprise that proud wife Rita Wilson was by her husband’s side as he accepted one of the biggest awards of his career on Sunday.

Tom Hanks was honoured with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 77th annual Golden Globes, which is handed out each year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to individuals who have made “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment”.

And the 63-year-old star, whose most recent film A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood has received a flurry of nominations this awards season, took his entire family along with him as he accepted the honour at the event in Los Angeles.

Wife Rita, who is also 63, stole the spotlight as the entire Hanks clan posed on the red carpet, showing off her incredible figure in a svelte sequinned number. The eye-catching frock featured a classic square-cut neckline, elegant long sleeves and a daring thigh-high split up the back of the skirt, adding a touch of sex appeal to the glamorous look.

She then completed the look with the addition of a few simple pieces of jewellery, including a single strand diamond necklace, and wore her hair in effortless waves.

The glamorous appearance almost didn’t happen though as Rita revealed that her glam squad were an hour and a half late to do her hair and make-up for the prestigious awards ceremony, which is watched by millions of people around the world.

Writing on Instagram before the event, she said: “What you look like when your hair and makeup person for the @goldenglobes is one and a half hours late even though you booked him in September. Will leave one hour to do hair and makeup.”

Tom – who was also nominated in the category for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture, but lost out to Brad Pitt – and Rita also posed for photographs with their family on the red carpet on Sunday.

The couple were joined by Tom’s eldest son Colin Hanks, 42, who was born to Tom’s first wife Samantha Lewes, and his wife of nine-years Samantha Bryant, as well as Hanks’ only daughter Elizabeth, 37, whom he also shares with Lewes. Rita and Tom’s sons Chet, 29, and Truman, 24, were also in attendance.

Hanks apologised after becoming emotional on stage as he discussed his family in his acceptance speech, describing Rita as “fantastic in every way”. He also described himself as having five kids, rather than four, so as to include his son Colin’s wife.

“A man is blessed with a family sitting down front like that,” he said. “A wife who is fantastic in every way, who has taught me what love is. Five kids who are braver and stronger and wiser than their old man is.

“And a loving group of people who have put up with me being away months and months and months at a time.”
