Despite calling time on her political career just 10 months ago, former Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has continued to set the world alight with her incredible sense of fashion and the ex-pollie stepped out in another stunning dress this week as she attended an event at the prestigious Harvard University.
Julie flew out to Boston, USA, to meet with students from Australian and New Zealand who are completing courses at Harvard Kennedy School, discussing her career in politics with the young students, as well as international affairs and their dreams for the future.
The 63-year-old looked effortlessly cool for the outing in a tight-fitting midi dress which featured a striking pastel blue and black floral pattern, with an eye-catching thick black seam running down the centre of the frock. The dress, which is perhaps more casual than some of Julie’s other recent looks, also featured a stand-away collar and long, slim-fitting sleeves.
And dressing appropriately for the much cooler climes of Massachusetts, where the average daytime temperature is just 2 degrees, Julie slipped on a pair of thick opaque stocking beneath her dress. She completed the look with a pair of knee-length chunky black boots and a simple black clutch bag.
Julie wasn’t the only former senior Australian politician present at the event on Thursday though, as ex-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd also made an appearance at Harvard to speak to students. And, despite having played on opposing teams during their time in Canberra, the pair appeared to have put their differing political leanings aside as they posed for a photograph together.
Harvard Kennedy School Professor Nicholas Burns shared the photograph on Twitter, thanking the Aussie duo for their visit. He wrote: “An Australian power meeting at Harvard @Kennedy_School. Thanks Kevin @MrKRudd and Julie Bishop for speaking to our students today #Australia.”
Julie’s appearance at Harvard comes one week after she made a dazzling appearance at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in Sydney, alongside her long-term partner David Panton.
The former Liberal deputy leader pulled of one of her most iconic – and flattering – looks to date as she stepped out in a show-stopping 1950s-style fit-and-flare dress that fit snugly in the bodice before flaring into a full skirt. The dress, by Aussie fashion design house Paolo Sebastian, featured beautiful floral detailing with semi-sheer sleeves, a nipped-in waist that highlighted Julie’s trim figure and an ankle-skimming skirt.
She coupled the dress with a pair of ruby-red Prada heels and drop earrings from high-end store Van Cleef & Arpels, but cleverly kept her hair and make-up low-key to let the dramatic dress do the talking. Posing for photos with her partner before she presented a special innovation award at the star-studded bash, Julie looked like a million dollars.
Property developer and wine maker David, as always, cut an equally trim figure in a classic black tuxedo and bowtie.
