While we all strive to maintain a clean and healthy living environment, sometimes keeping mould at bay can be impossible.

Mould not only ruins the aesthetic appeal of our homes but can also pose significant health risks.

However, thanks to the ingenuity of a home improvement expert, homeowners have gained a new arsenal of tricks to combat mould growth in their homes.

Anita Birges recently took to Instagram to share her ingenious methods for keeping mould in check, such as infusing chalk with clove oil, utilising silica gel packets, and harnessing the power of baking soda, to banish mould from the home.

“Is there anything worse than having mould in your cupboards, on your walls or on your clothes?” she wrote.

“These have been tried and tested, and I want to share them with you.

“Here are 3 Simple Ways To Keep Mould Away.

“1. Put a few drops of Clove Oil on a piece of chalk and pop them into your drawers.

“2. Don’t throw away those little silicone packets you get inside packaging or shoe boxes. Use them in your wardrobe.

“I put mine into my shoes and it works a treat, especially for the leather boots.

“3. Leave an open box of baking soda under your kitchen sink. I also like to leave them in those beautifully organised cupboards under the bathroom sinks as well.

“Mould comes from the airs moisture and lack of ventilation in our homes. These little tips will help absorb that extra moisture and keep from mould appearing at all.

“Prevention is better than cure.”

Her ingenious tips left her followers astounded and eager to give her recommendations a go.

“The shoe one is awesome!! I didn’t know earlier I’ve thrown away so many pairs of shoes that got destroyed by mould,” one follower wrote.

“Perfect, love it and so smart x.”

“Another awesome tip,” commented another.

“Brilliant.”

While Birges’ tips are no doubt helpful and effective, they also serve as a timely reminder of the dangers associated with mould growth in homes. Mould spores can trigger allergies, respiratory issues, and even exacerbate existing health conditions such as asthma. Prolonged exposure to certain types of mould can also lead to more severe health problems.

Additionally, mould can cause structural damage to your home, compromising its integrity and potentially resulting in costly repairs. By adopting the home improvement expert’s suggestions and incorporating them into your routine, you can effectively safeguard your health and protect your property.
