When it comes to slices there are so many varieties, but this old fashioned chocolate slice is definitely up there as one of the best! This classic recipe is sure to remind you of your childhood with its finger-licking good chocolate icing and flavoursome base, made up of brown sugar, cocoa and coconut. And to really take the recipe to next level sprinkle with extra coconut.

Once cooked, cut into squares and store in the fridge. Zap it in the microwave for about 20 seconds before serving to soften it up and serve with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious treat.

Ingredients

Base

  • 125g butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
  • 1/2 cup plain flour
  • 1/2 cup self raising flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 egg

Icing

  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 3 tbsp cocoa

Method

  1. Place all ingredients for the base into a food processor and process for 30 seconds.
  2. Preheat oven to 180C. Press into a lined square (20cm x 20cm) baking dish and bake for 20 minutes. Set aside in the pan to cool.
  3. To make the icing, sift the icing sugar and cocoa into a medium bowl. Add 1 tsp of water (you might need to add a little more depending on the consistency) and mix well.
  4. Top with chocolate icing. Set aside until icing sets.
