Insect deterrent. Growing mint in little pots around your kitchen or garden will effectively repel ants and flies. Alternatively, spray diluted mint essential oil around your home.

Hiccup relief. Hiccups are caused by diaphragm irritation, so quickly soothe a series of embarrassing hiccups with a glass of this homemade mint drink. Add a squeeze of lemon juice, a sprinkle of salt, and some crushed mint leaves to a glass of lukewarm water and sip to relieve hiccups.

Sunburn soother. Brew crushed mint leaves in boiling water and refrigerate the mixture. Whenever you have been sunburnt, soak a cotton wool ball in the cool mixture and apply topically to the affected area to relieve the pain.

Happy feet. Mint creates a cooling sensation that is perfect for soothing any foot aches or pains. Combine 1 cup of sea salt, 1/3 cup of olive oil, and ½ cup crushed mint leaves into a glass jar to create your own foot scrub.

Fresh face. As mint is gentle and revitalising at the same time, you can use mint to soothe your skin with a simple facemask. Mix six finely chopped strawberries, ten finely chopped mint leaves, two tablespoons of honey, and one cup of yogurt until smooth. Apply to your face and relax for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Your face will feel smooth, calm and refreshed.

Icebreaker. Add chopped mint leaves into your ice cube trays to subtly add some flavour in your cocktails or drinks.

Flea free. Similar to an insect repellent, keep pets flea free with this homemade spray. Mix boiling water, crushed mint leaves and vinegar in a bowl and set aside to cool. When it has chilled, strain the mixture and pour the liquid into a spray bottle. Spray your dog and its bedding to deter fleas.

Butter booster. Spice up your daily breakfast and foods with mint butter. Mix butter and mint leaves in your blender then pop the mixture back into the fridge. Tastes delicious on boiled or baked potatoes!

Air freshener. Brew mint leaves in boiling water and set aside to cool. When completely cool, strain and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Spray around the home after vacuuming for a fresh, welcoming aroma.

Carpet cleaner. Mix crushed mint leaves with baking soda to amplify its carpet cleaning effects by letting the mixture sit for an hour before vacuuming to reveal a clean carpet that looks and smells clean.
