Queenie Gott, ‘Australia’s Funniest Boomer’ finalist, on the ups and downs of ageing

Recently Starts at 60 held a special over-60s comedy night at Brisbane’s Sit Down Comedy Club to find Australia’s Funniest Boomer.

National finalist Queenie Gott was among the favourites of the evening.

Click “play” above to watch her full five-minute set, covering a wide range of topics including life with a millennial daughter, possible neurodivergence, the human body’s many quirks as it approaches 70, visits to the doctor, and to cap off the routine in style, a spirited recreation of Raygun’s infamous Olympic breakdance.

“I did my first set at Balmain Leagues Club and loved it,” says the Fraser Coast local.

At the age of 60, Queenie’s friends urged her to enter Australia’s Got Talent. She progressed through to the finals at the Sydney Opera House in what she describes as “the best night of my life”.

“My third set was when I was invited to Melbourne to do a gig for a book launch, and that was awesome too.”

“I live in Maryborough, Queensland, and although in my later 60s now, I’m hoping to establish a comedy venue here.”
