A man and woman had been married for more than 30 years and shared everything during their marriage together. They had talked about everything and kept no secrets from each other – or so the husband thought.
The woman actually had a secret box hidden at the top of her closet and asked her husband to never open it or talk about it. Years went by and the husband didn’t give much thought of the box until his wife got very sick. She was told her illness was terminal and that she was dying.
In an attempt to sort out their affairs before his wife passed away, he took the box down and placed it next to his wife. The pair agreed the husband should know what was inside.
When he opened it, he discovered two crocheted dolls and $50,000 of cash. Confused, the husband asked his wife what it meant.
“When we were to be married,” she said, “my grandmother told me the secret of a happy marriage was to never argue. She told me that if I ever got mad at you, I should keep quiet and crochet a doll.”
The man tried not to cry and was so moved because he thought it meant his wife had only been angry with him two times during their entire marriage.
“That explains the dolls, but what does the money have to do with that?” the husband asked his wife.
“Oh,” she said. “That’s the money I made from selling all the other dolls.”
