The first trailer has been released of the ‘Grace of Monaco’ biopic starring Nicole Kidman and already Monaco Royals have stepped in to distance themselves from the picture.
The Monaco Royals have said, “The Prince’s Palace would like to reiterate that this feature film cannot under any circumstance be classified as a biopic”.
“The trailer appears to be a farce and confirms the totally fictional nature of this film. It reinforces the certainty, left after reading the script, that this production, a page of the Principality’s history, is based on erroneous and dubious historical references.
“The Princely Family does not in any way wish to be associated with this film which reflects no reality and regrets that it’s history has been misappropriated for purely commercial purposes.”
Here is the trailer… What do you think of it?
Personally, I am a big fan of Grace Kelly and am looking forward to seeing this picture. But of course, with every other Hollywood movie, it is hard to separate the fact from the fiction.
Recently we have seen Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana brought to life again on the silver screen to lukewarm responses. It will be interesting to see how this movie performs.
The film is due to be featured at the Cannes Film Festival this week. The Monaco Royals traditionally attend, however due to this movie it is being said that they are unlikely to this year.
The Cannes festival defended the film, saying it would add positively to the “Monaco legend”.
“The film is not a biopic in the strictest sense, from life to death,” Thierry Fremaux, the festival’s artistic director, said.
“It’s the expression of the right of every artist to poetic license.”
So, would you go and see the Grace of Monaco movie, starring Nicole Kidman?
