Comedian Jimmy Fallon has mocked US president Donald Trump with a hilarious impression of Trump singing Elvis Presley’s iconic hit ‘Jailhouse Rock’.

It came after comments Trump made at a rally in Presley’s hometown of Tupelo in Mississippi on Monday. During the rally, the president claimed that people used to tell him he resembled the musical heartthrob when he was younger.

On the recent episode of The Tonight Show, Fallon put Trump’s theory to the test, performing a parody version of the iconic hit as though he were Trump trying out an Elvis impersonation.

“Thank you, ladies and gentleman. Thank you,” Fallon said dressed in an all-leather ensemble with a black Elvis wig atop his blonde Trump hair.

“It’s great being here in Memphis,” he continued. “And I gotta tell you, a lot of people have been saying I look like Elvis. It’s true. They say I look like Elvis. So I’d like to do a tribute to the great man himself, the King. Hit it, boys.”

Fallon was soon belting out the revamped version of ‘Jailhouse Rock’, inspired by Trump’s tumultuous administration. The host sang in his Trump voice: “The warden threw a party in the county jail / Everyone in my administration started to wail / Indictments handed down to the whole West Wing / You should’ve heard my lawyer Michael Cohen sing.”

He then launched into the chorus: “Let’s rock / Everybody let’s rock / Everybody with a White House job / Was dancin’ to the Jailhouse Rock.”

The standout line was “I’m a hunk of burning love for Vladdy [sic] Putin”, in reference to Trump’s relationship with the Russian president.

At Monday’s rally, the 72-year-old president delighted the crowd with his recollections of being compared to the musical icon throughout his youth.

“I am thrilled to be back in Tupelo! I love Tupelo,” Trump told the crowd. “Home of thousands of hardworking American patriots and the proud birthplace of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis.”

He continued: “I shouldn’t say this. You’ll say I’m very conceited cause I’m not. But other than the blonde hair, when I was growing up, they said I looked like Elvis.”

The president had earlier recalled one of the times he was there to witness the pandemonium that surrounded Elvis.

“In fact, at the end of a performance, oftentimes the fans would go so wild — I was there once in Las Vegas, at the Hilton,” he recalled. “The fans were ripping the place apart, screaming. They were going crazy. And they announced, ‘Elvis has left the house.’

“If they didn’t say that, I think I’d still be there. Maybe I wouldn’t be here. But they had to do that. ‘Elvis has gone. Elvis has left.’”

The president was seemingly referring to the famous phrase, “Elvis has left the building”.
