Starring in royal roles is no new feat for actress Dame Helen Mirren, who gave fans a sneak peak of a stunning regal costume she is set to wear in a highly anticipated miniseries.

Playing a number of royal identities over the years, including the much loved Queen Elizabeth, the 73-year-old will soon appear as the tumultuous monarch and politician Catherine the Great.

Taking to her Instagram page, the award-winning actress shared a behind-the-scenes shot of the jaw-dropping outfit that will transform her into the woman who ruled the Russian empire.

“Costume fitting at cherry duck studios London. This is what happens underneath the amazing beautiful costumes I will be wearing as Catherine the Great of Russia. It will be a four hour piece for @skyatlanticuk and @hbo,” Mirren explained on the post.

While she still opted for a pair of comfy trakkies, on top the beauty sported a tightly fit cream corset that will most likely be fitted with a gorgeous dress. The photo has turned heads and excited followers who were quick to share their eagerness to watch the series that only began filming in the second half of this year.

“Omg can’t wait to see you as Catherine the Great. Can’t think of anyone better to play her,” one person commented.

“I am so excited that you are going to play her. I’ve read bios of her and am a huge fan,” another added.

“Can’t wait! One of my favourite historical figures,” a third said.

The four-part historical drama will follow the end of Catherine’s reign and her affair with Russian military leader Grigory Potemkin throughout the 18th century.

Announcing her role earlier this year, Mirren expressed her excitement in playing the woman powerful woman.

“I am very excited by the possibility of embodying a woman from history who grabbed and then wielded great power,” she told The Guardian. “She rewrote the rules of governance by a woman, and succeeded to the extent of having the word ‘Great’ attached to her name.”

The upcoming miniseries adds to the collection of regal roles played by Mirren over the years – many of which have gained her an impressive list of awards.

In 2007, the blonde beauty received an Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in, The Queen, followed by a Tony for The Audience in 2015 and the title of best actress at Cannes for playing Queen Charlotte in The Madness of King George.
