Recall issued for Paracetamol Codeine tablets

The common tablets are used to treat various forms of pain.

The Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA) is urging Aussies to check their medicine cabinets for certain batches of Paracetamol Codeine after discovering issues with the packaging.

The behind-the-counter (BTC) drug may have been dispensed with missing blister sheets, which means affected packs would not contain the correct amount of tablets.

Manufacturers also advice against taking any medication that has come from damaged packaging.

The BTC Paracetamol Codeine tablets are marked with the batch number batch number 40970, expiry date 05/2018.

Pharmacists have also been told to check their stock rooms and return all products that could be affected.

Anyone who has purchased the pills should return them to the pharmacy for a full refund.

The tablets are often given to people to relieve moderate to severe pain and fever. Similar to over-the-counter drugs, BTC medication is issued by a pharmacist, but does not require a doctor’s prescription.

Instead, the pharmacist will take note of the patients symptoms and advice which medication could be suitable.

The TGA says patients who return the Paracetamol Codeine tablets should ask their pharmacist to advice then on an alternative medication instead.

Have you ever bought these tablets? How do you deal with pain?
